A Surprising Loss

Okay, after last season’s improvement I truly bought into Craig Robinson and what he was doing up in Corvallis. But a 67-43 pasting by the Islanders in the Beavers season-opener has me backpedaling quickly.

The Beavers couldn’t do anything right in a game where they shot just 13-28 free throws, shot around the 30% mark from the field and coughed up the ball 25 times to a “powerhouse” like Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

Argue that it is a long season and this is just the first game all you want. But scoring just 43 points on your home court against the Islanders is bad news… after all, it is the second lowest total ever allowed by the Islanders. And while you’re thinking of arguing my stand point, keep in mind that the Beavers were down 30-18 at half and gave up a 21-7 run to start the second half. OUCH!

Seth Tarver led the Beavers with 12, which makes you wonder where that supposed All-Conference “center’ Roeland Schaftenaar was. Make no mistake about it, the Beavers are in trouble and its only the first game of the year.
